Mr.Curtin's class November!

Image
It’s been a busy month in Mr. Curtin’ 6 th   Class with lots of fun things taking place. We had a visit from the Garda band in the Junior School. They played many different songs and they were brilliant! We also had Science Week in our school and Intel came to look at all our projects. They picked Eleanor as our class winner and she won a drone! We have been listening to a Podcast called Six Minutes. It is about a girl called Holiday who was made in a lab but doesn’t know anything else about her past. She is trying to uncover secrets about herself while spies in her school chase her! We are now preparing for Christmas and starting to learn our songs and poems for the Carol Service. We are also busy decorating wooden trees that Mr. Curtin’ Dad made for us! We will post pictures of the trees when we have fully decorated them!

In my class, we have been doing lots of fun things. For example, in art we have been learning about Shepard Fairey and Banksy. They are both very good and talented artists and both unique in their own ways. We have also been reading a new book called The Thief of Always. It is a fantastic book and I would really recommend it. We have been doing quite a few poems as well like Subh Milis, The Girl with many Eyes and the most recent one, The Staring girl. That's all that my class have been doing for now. Until next time, Chloe from Mr. Curtin’s Class.

We loved getting a chance to use the Lego Spike kits. We spend the first day building vehicles and exploring how the motors, batteries and sensors work. Check out some of our creations! Next we decided to build Fairground attractions. We loved this activity. Check out our video! This week we also started back swimming in the Aquatic Centre. It was great fun!

It’s been a few busy weeks in our 6 th  Class.   On March 2 nd , we had our Confirmation. Father Tim was really lovely and a great day was had by all.   Last Thursday, we went on a school outing to Glasnevin Cemetery and The Botanic Gardens. We learnt lots of facts about Daniel O’ Connell, Michael Collins and Charles Parnell. It was interesting to see their graves – especially the grave of Daniel O Connell underneath the large tower!   We are currently decorating Shamrocks made for us by Mr. Curtin’s Dad. We’re not sure how much green paint we will have left once we finish them all!  ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ms.Oakes' January review

January 2024 blog for Ms. Oakes' class. This month in Ms. Oakes' class we started writing formal letters (based on January's “letter writing genre”) to people we admire such as sports players from Irish and English teams, as well as singers and authors and other famous/ semi-famous people. Last year, in December, we read the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas novel so this month we watched the movie. Bit different than the book, but it is still overall good though. In art, we have focused on the Chinese New Year by making fortune tellers and Chinese cats. We also did presentations of polish projects where we were split into groups and given categories for researching. We have begun preparing for our confirmation as well by learning about the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit with the story of the Pentecost and the Beatitudes. Soon we will be able to go to the book fair and pick out some amazing books too! That is all! -Jamie.

During this last month, we have been doing a lot of fun work. We have been learning about China and the Chinese New Year tradition. Natas bought Mr. Curtin a Lego Chinese calendar and we built it for his desk. Check it out in the photo! (Photo 1)   We have started reading a new novel called ‘The Thief of Always’ by Clive Barker. It was written in 1983 and is the same age as Mr. Curtin! It has been turned into a Graphic Novel also, so we are comparing both versions. We made covers of the book from different countries around the world. Here is a picture of the Chinese novel cover. (Photo 2)   It is Book Fair time in school and we are enjoying looking at all of the fantastic books! (Photo 3)   That’s all for now! Paighton ๐Ÿ˜Š

Ms. Oakes' Dec 2023

Its almost Christmas time here in Ms. Oakes' class! This Christmas we have been learning about the Second World War, from art to reading. In fact, we have completely read the novel “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas”. If you walk by our classroom, be sure to look at all of our amazing art! We did some on the children’s podcast “Six Minutes”, made special 'What I look for in Friends' art and our Maths Eyes posters with the theme “Gaming”! Anna in our class has a very special talent, she can play the piano off of sound! All she needs is to listen to a song a couple of times and she replicates it all without music sheets! Awesome!! Finally, we are sending cards down to 4th class for Christmas. But it isn’t quite Christmas yet. Unfortunately, we still have to wait for the 25th of December before we get any presents. Merry Christmas! - Jamie

This month we have been doing projects on Poland in Geography .   We focused on topics such as Polish food, Polish UNESCO sites, etc. It was a lot of fun. The project below was completed by Jessica and Sam. Also this month we have started a new novel, ‘When The Sky Falls’. The book is about WWII and the London Blitz.Joseph has been sent to live with a gruff woman with no fondness for children called Mrs F. She lives in Yorkshire and Joseph finds life very difficult with her. This book is based on a true story. I found this book interesting because we recently learned about WWII and about what happened during WWII. We have started a class raffle for children who are working hard. Roughly every two days we pull out a ticket and who ever wins gets a prize. Last Friday the winners got a cup of hot chocolate. On Monday we put up our beautiful Christmas tree. Almost all of our Christmas decorations are up. The class looks very festive! That is this months blog, see you...
